Constructing the first national rail Network illustrates the UAE’s efforts in developing a diversified economy. It also reflects the vision of its wise leaders in having a diverse, sustainable economy that carries on with the comprehensive development process initiated by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE, and consolidated by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in conjunction with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Transportation and logistics are two of the strategic economic sectors comprising the UAE Vision 2021 and Abu Dhabi Plan. Thus, Etihad Rail has assumed the responsibility of providing safe and sustainable means of transportation for passengers and freight inside and outside the UAE by building an integrated railway network that connects the country’s main commercial, industrial, and residential hubs.
Over the next few years, our specialized staff in Etihad Rail, supported by a team of world-class engineers and contractors, will work on realizing our leaders’ vision and turning it into tangible reality. We have started to see the project’s main features taking effect as we finished the 264-kilometer Phase 1 connecting Shah and Habshan sulphur fields to Ruwais Port.
The UAE’s geographical location has been a key factor in supporting the country’s efforts of building a complete railway network, contributing to the strategic role of Etihad Rail in the process of diversifying resources and strengthening the country’s non-oil economy. Our project offers a wide range of social and environmental benefits to the UAE and provides safe transportation lines and links the GCC countries.
In conclusion, I would like to underline the fact that Etihad Rail is firmly committed to continue its work towards completing Phase 2 of this promising regional project and we reiterate our unwavering commitment to achieving prosperity and growth sustainability in the UAE.
